International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day

Sat, Nov 18, 2017 starting at 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Program to include screening, panel discussion, small-group discussion

Parkland College will host the 2017 International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day event on Saturday, Nov. 18.

The program will take place 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room U140 of the Student Union.

Created by an act of Congress in 1999 and sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day is the one day a year when people affected by suicide loss gather in their local communities to find comfort and gain understanding as they share stories of healing and hope.Survivors of Suicide Loss Day

For many loss survivors, attending a Survivor Day event is an opportunity to discover that they are not alone in their experience of losing someone they know and love to suicide.

Parkland's program will include a screening of AFSP's compelling new documentary The Journey: A Story of Healing and Hope; panel discussion with suicide and mental health professionals; and small-group discussion opportunities for those who have experienced a similar loss.

Register for this free event at afsp.org/survivorday. For those who are unable to attend a Survivor Day event in person, AFSP hosts a Survivor Day program online at survivorday.org.

In 2016, there were over 350 Survivor Day events held in 18 countries.
